COST Academy webinar on Forest fires
The COST Academy is organising a webinar on Forest fires on 2 November 2022, between 11:00-12:00 CET. The webinar will be presented by COST Action CA18135 (https://www.cost.eu/actions/CA18135/) Fire in the Earth System: Science & Society (FIRElinks: https://firelinks.eu/).The webinar is open to all COST Action participants, so please feel free to spread the information to all of your Action network. Please note that a valid COST Action number is needed for the registrations to be processed.
With forest fires dominating the news throughout the summer and affecting multiple countries, the summer season 2022 has emphasised the issue throughout the European ecosystems. The record high temperatures and heatwaves caused by climate change have made droughts even harsher and further increased the risk of forest fires. The expected further intensification and geographical spreading of wildfire regimes under Global Change require solutions, such as synergistic collaborations between European research groups and stakeholders from different scientific and geographic backgrounds to synthesise the existing knowledge and expertise, and to define a concerted research agenda.
The COST Academy webinar aims to raise awareness on the important topic and will be presented by the COST Action FIRElinks (https://firelinks.eu/) experts. The Action includes a network of scientists and practitioners involved in forest fire research and land management and covers topics such as fire dynamics, fire risk management, fire effects on vegetation, fauna, soil and water, and different approaches to the issue. The webinar presentations will include the Action’s work on the topic, together with examples from different European countries, the Global Fire Partnership, and the international congresses initiated by FIRElinks COST Action.
